I had the opportunity to spend a day photographing my mentor Kirsten. She has been an integral part of shaping who I am as a photographer and giving me permission to create art by following my instincts, not just popular style trends in photography.
I was in Colorado, ready to capture her family’s memories. Little did I know on that same day they would have to say goodbye their 16 year old cat and while I love animals so much- I worried how it might affect my work but the process was peaceful and happy even though there is always pain when someone dies – for them it felt like a relief because she had been sic
I had a lump in my throat as I watched the family come together to say good bye. Getting an animal is always such a big commitment and it’s so hard when they pass away, but this little cat got one heck of send-off from his loving owner!
The day continued, and even though I felt lost in this dearly pet, I was able to document their every day life.
